The ask
Recurring aerial mapping of an environmental-monitoring site for a consulting firm. The goal is consistent, comparable orthos and DSMs across seasons so surface change is documentable year over year.
How I approached it
Identical flight plans and ground control each visit. RTK base-rover established on permanent survey monuments so GCP coordinates are stable between flights. Processing pipeline locked (CRS, bundle adjustment parameters) so outputs are directly comparable.
Deliverables
Per-flight: ortho, DSM, annotated monitoring figures. Cross-flight: change-detection pairs with the previous visit.
Outcome
The consulting firm uses the recurring dataset in their ongoing monitoring reports. Consistent deliverables across seasons means their team spends time on analysis, not on reconciling inconsistent inputs.
Deliverables
- • Ortho (3 cm GSD)
- • DSM
- • Change-detection pairs (flight-to-flight)
- • Annotated monitoring figures
Tech
- • DJI M3E + RTK
- • Emlid Reach RS3 (base + rover)
- • 8 ground control points
